May, a 20-something woman with an advanced degree, came to the Clinic $50,000 in debt. She was in an abusive relationship and was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and major depression. May began treatment with individual therapy and medications but ultimately transitioned to group therapy, where she became a leader. During her four years with the Clinic, May held down two jobs, consolidated her debt, and completed a six-month AmeriCorps volunteer program. She is now pursuing a second master’s degree and plans to work with children when she graduates.
